New Oral Care Device Challenges The Traditional Toothbrush

Ocjoy is seeking to rethink home oral care with a new countertop device that draws inspiration from the air-polishing systems commonly used in dental clinics.

Known as Air-Streaming, the device uses a combination of air, water and cleaning powder to remove plaque, biofilm and surface stains. Unlike traditional electric toothbrushes, which rely on bristle movement to clean teeth, the system uses a pressurised stream designed to clean without direct brushing contact.

The technology is based on a process frequently used by dental hygienists, where fine particles are propelled at tooth surfaces to assist with stain removal and cleaning. Ocjoy has adapted this concept for home use, positioning the device as a potential alternative to conventional brushing rather than a complementary product.

Another notable difference is the absence of replaceable brush heads or proprietary cartridges. Aside from replenishing the cleaning powder, the system does not require the ongoing consumable purchases that have become common in the electric toothbrush market.

According to the company, the product’s development involved dental researchers and draws on Swiss dental engineering principles. While details surrounding Australian pricing and availability have not yet been released, Ocjoy has indicated that Air-Streaming is being prepared for an international launch as it looks to introduce a different approach to daily oral hygiene.
