EXCLUSIVE: Award Winning Wilfa Bread Maker Launched In Australia

Melbourne-based distributor Aqipa is making a major push into Australia’s premium kitchen appliance market after securing the exclusive distribution rights to Norwegian appliance brand Wilfa, a move that will see the award-winning Wilfa ProBaker mixer debut locally at The Good Guys with  the $1,499 European appliance now on sale.

The Austrian-owned distributor, which has traditionally focused on consumer technology and lifestyle brands, is now targeting serious home bakers and cooking enthusiasts with the launch of Wilfa’s flagship stand mixer through major retailer The Good Guys.

The previous distributor was Adelaide based Powermove who appaently was “going nowhere” with the brand, with some specialist appliance retailers who don’t have stock of the Wifa products still ranging on their web sites the WilfaProBaker appliance.

The arrival of the Wilfa ProBaker sets up a direct challenge to established premium kitchen appliance brands, including KitchenAid, with Wilfa positioning the machine as a professional-grade alternative designed specifically for demanding dough preparation and bread making.

While relatively unknown to Australian consumers, Wilfa is one of Scandinavia’s best-known small appliance manufacturers. Founded in Norway in 1948, the company has built a reputation across Europe for its coffee equipment, mixers, blenders and household appliances, with a strong emphasis on Nordic design, durability and sustainability.

The brand has gained particular recognition among specialty coffee enthusiasts through collaborations with World Barista Champion Tim Wendelboe. Products such as the Wilfa Svart and Uniform grinders have developed a loyal following, with reviewers frequently highlighting their build quality and grind consistency relative to competing products.

Now Wilfa is betting that its flagship ProBaker can replicate that success in the highly competitive premium stand mixer category.

Developed over five years in collaboration with Norway’s national culinary team, the ProBaker has collected several major international design awards, including Red Dot and iF Design honours.

The machine’s specifications are aimed squarely at serious home bakers, featuring a seven-litre stainless steel mixing bowl, dual-action kneading system, up to 20 speed settings and the capacity to handle up to four kilograms of dough in a single batch.

Unlike conventional stand mixers, the ProBaker employs a belt-driven system that powers both the rotating bowl and mixing attachment simultaneously, a design Wilfa claims delivers superior gluten development and more consistent mixing performance.

European reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the machine’s kneading capability, low vibration levels and ability to handle both large and small batches with equal efficiency.

A key selling point is the mixer’s commercial-style dough handling performance. Wilfa claims the specially designed dough hook and dual-action mixing system replicate the techniques used in professional bakeries, while the machine’s low centre of gravity and heavy-duty construction ensure stability even when processing dense dough mixtures at high speeds.

The launch marks a significant expansion of Aqipa’s appliance ambitions as distributors increasingly look beyond traditional consumer electronics categories to capture growth in the premium kitchen appliance sector, where demand for high-end home baking equipment has remained strong despite broader retail challenges.

With a $1,499 price tag, the Wilfa ProBaker enters the Australian market as a premium proposition, but one that Aqipa is betting can win over consumers seeking commercial-grade performance in a home kitchen.
