Fisher & Paykel Reinvents Fabric Care With Fibre-Led Intelligent Technology

Fisher & Paykel has unveiled a new generation of fabric care appliances aimed at extending garment life through fibre-specific washing, drying and refreshing technology.

The company’s Contemporary collection spans washing machines, dryers and fabric care cabinets across its Series 7, 9 and 11 ranges, combining updated industrial design with advanced sensing systems designed to tailor laundry care to different fabric types.

The launch marks the latest step in Fisher & Paykel’s more than 90-year history in laundry appliances, with the company shifting its focus toward what it describes as a “fibre-first” approach to garment care.

According to Chief Marketing and Product Officer Katrina Glenday, the company sees modern wardrobes as long-term investments requiring more specialised treatment.

“Complete fabric care is not delivered by a single product but by a suite of intelligent solutions working together to meet diverse needs,” Glenday said.

At the centre of the new platform is a system of sensors and automated adjustments that monitor factors such as temperature, drum movement, water flow and drying intensity throughout each cycle. The appliances are designed to respond differently depending on the fibre composition and condition of garments.

Zoey Wu, General Manager of Fabric Care, said the redevelopment process began with research into how fabrics react to washing and drying conditions over time.

“We started by studying, at a molecular level, how factors such as temperature, cycle and speed affect fabrics over time,” Wu said.

The result is a redesigned interface that moves away from traditional cycle-based settings in favour of fibre-specific care options. Across the Series 9 and 11 products, the system supports up to 49 specialised cycles and as many as 1,200 possible wash combinations.

The company claims the technology can improve garment longevity while also supporting sustainability goals by reducing the need for premature clothing replacement.

Fisher & Paykel’s ecosystem approach also extends to product design, with appliances intended to integrate into a variety of home layouts and cabinetry styles. The collection is available in Graphite and White finishes, featuring glass displays, concealed handles and a minimalist aesthetic aimed at blending into wardrobe and laundry spaces.

Core features across the range include Vortex Wash, load sensing and Auto-Dose detergent dispensing, while higher-end models add capabilities such as soil sensing, colour sensing, Steam Refresh and UV Sanitise.

Connectivity also plays a role in the updated platform. Through SmartHQ integration, users can remotely monitor cycles, receive care guidance and update appliance settings.

Glenday said the company’s focus was balancing premium design with long-term performance and efficiency.

“The intelligence of our appliances enables enhanced garment care alongside energy and water efficiency, with efficiency built into every cycle, not confined to a single eco programme,” she said.

Fisher & Paykel said the appliances have been tested across 6,000 cycles, which the company estimates is equivalent to around 20 years of use.
